Welcome to our ‘Curator’s Choice’ - a special series dedicated to help you navigate through our curated collection.
Born and raised in Hong Kong, Ray Ng moved to the UK at an early age to complete his education.
A lawyer by training, Ray worked a brief stint in the legal industry before leaving his job to co-found Buzz Concepts Group. After returning to Hong Kong and once again falling in love with the city, Ray coined the phrase “
Home Kong”, and trademarked it in 2010. A full lifestyle brand soon followed, creating a wide range of products designed for people who love Hong Kong as much as he does.
As a local Honkie, I am extremely proud and intrigued by Bamboo Scenes’ passion and enthusiasm for showcasing Hong Kong’s best photography artists’.
Curator's Choice Picks
Golden Days - Elaine Li
"Golden Days" (2017) by Elaine Li - Victoria Harbour, Hong Kong
When I look at the iconic Bank of China Tower, I remember the Feng Shui cannons being positioned on the roof of the HSBC building to fend off negative energy. This is such an East-meets-West phenomenon that’s typical of Hong Kong!
Journey of the Evergreen - Jeremey Cheung
The classic ‘Ding Ding’ always reminds me of the 1970s, when a trip cost around 20-40 cents. Every time I wanted to take the tram, I had to scrounge for those tiny cent coins in my pocket or wallet to pay the fare.
Everyday Lightshow - Kevin Mak
It’s always fascinating to tell my visiting friends that the skyscrapers in Hong Kong are built with bamboo scaffolding. Apparently, it takes only one day to put up a 1000ft-tall scaffolding! Unfortunately, I think it’s now a dying skill set.
What if the Sky is a Show & the Aliens are watching - Vivien Liu
This is an incredible capture of a Hong Kong sunset and I love the title, which resonates with how I used to tell my parents we could be just another 'Sim City’.
Generations Collide - Elaine Li
This is such a classic picture of our concrete jungle of high-rises and ‘tong lau’, both of which have inspired me for designs for Home Kong.
Heading To - Kelvin Yuen
While Hong Kong is best known for the density of its buildings, it’s often surprising to many that its natural side encompasses over 70% of the island. This picture perfectly captures the diversity of our city.
