Sheung Wan (2020)
A poignant reminder of Hong Kong’s past, only one signboard remains on this now developed street in Sheung Wan. Once, it was filled with signs, all strategically placed so the businesses below could attract more customers. Now, the march of time has left only a small hint of this street’s bustling commercial past. Still, the remaining signs seem to reach out to the man on the bike, waiting for him to deliver the goods he’s carrying.
An award-winning Hong Kong photographer and architect, Kevin Mak captures Hong Kong from unique urban and spatial perspectives. His art embraces the layers of history and blending of cultures that Hong Kong represents, capturing this in a timeless yet modern style. Through his striking images, Kevin aims to showcase the quiet calm that lies under the city’s chaotic, crowded veneer.
